Mursalitsa National Park trails.Architectural and folklore reserve Shiroka Laka and Gela.

            Both beautiful and mysterious, the Rhodope mountain has preserved villages - a true masterpiece of Renaissance artistry. We will embark on an incomparable experience to two iconic destinations for the Rhodope Mountains, namely the villages of Shiroka Laka and Gela.
            Shiroka Laka is a village which is both an architectural and a folklore reserve. Unique Renaissance houses, almost all of which gave birth to a musician or a sophisticated master of bagpipes. The rural life is unthinkable without the famous Rhodope cuisine and wonderful folk song. Shiroka Laka is one of the most beautiful places with ancient history, which among other things, is preserved the soul of its people. One of the best Bulgarian movies filmed here “Time of Violence”. Together with the village of Gela , Shiroka Laka is part of the 100 national tourist sites are the two most visited places in the Rhodope Mountains

            Also called “The valley of the bells and songs”, the village of Gela is situated in the central Rhodope Mountains at 1500 m altitude in the foot of the most majestic peaks of the mountains – Golyam Persenk peak (2191), Orpheus peak (2188).
            This small village has more than 3300 years of history and is considered to be one of the cradles of the European civilization. Every summer in the village there is a National Bagpipe Festival held the first weekend of August. During the two days of the fair, each year the village is visited by 10 000 to 15 000 visitors.

ITINERARY:

Day 1
Arrival and transfer from Sofia airport (aprox 90 minutes) to a city , considered to be the  cultural capital of Bulgaria- Plovdiv. This place keeps the remains  of civilization much older than the Roman. A city more than  8000 years old. A contemporary of ancient Troy. We will visit the old town of Plovdiv, including the Ethnographic Museum and the Antique theatre which is one of the best preserved in the World.

Day 2
After your first traditional Rhodope breakfast, you will be transfered to the starting point of the trail, namely “Sredni Livadi” Protected Area (aprox. 40 min). There you'll meet your trusty companion .Today’s trails will take us to the Village of Orehovo.  We'll come across with the stunning views of protected area "Sredni Livadi".The ride will also take us through old Roman road and ancient chapels .We will start following the longest eco-route in Bulgarian, ending neer Greece also known as the trail of the Legions.Lunch in old Village along the way to Orehowo, with traditional food for the region

Day 3
After yet another traditional Rhodope breakfast we head for the Village of Zabyrdo. This is a small mountain village standing 1400 m. above sea level. It is famous with the making of the traditional Rhodope cheese. We will also visit  the Rock Phenomenon “Wonderful Bridges”, which is one of the 100 Tourist Destination in Bulgaria

Day 4
Today we are heading for one of the so called "Rhodope pearls",an Architectural and Folklore reserve. The village of Shiroka laka is Emblematic place where the cobblestones streets and peculiar bazars make the tourists experience unforgettable. Getting there over horses back is like cultural adventure back in the 19 century. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bulgaria 
Some of the most emblematic places of interest in the village are the Ethnographic Museum which is arranged as a house of a wealthy Rhodope family from the end of the 19th century and the Church of the Assumption which was built in 1834 in just 38 days by all the people of Shiroka laka.

Day 5
The journey continues in the heart of “Mursalitsa “National Park, truly an experience you will never forget! We will also ride along the valley of bells and songs which will takes us to the famous village of Trigrad. The vast "Ilinden" Meadows, we will ride upon, gathers the biggest bagpipe festival in Bulgaria. We will also pass through one of the most beautiful natural lakes in the Rhodopes. The Chairi Lakes were formed by the sliding of an glaciers during the ice age. We will also cross the “Drunken Forest”, where the trees are not growing vertically, but rather  in all directions and angles.

Accommodation for the night is in authentic revival age family operated hotel.

Day 6
After breakfast we visit one  of the biggest and most beautiful caves in Bulgaria called the Devil Throat, we will also encounter the stuning beauty of Trigrad's Gorge on our way to the cave.
Afterwards we  head back to “The valley of the bells and songs” towards the village of Gela, repeating the most beautiful riding day of this trail.

Day 7
The last riding day of this remarkable trail will reveal some more unforgettable sceneries  from the ancient Rhodopes. We will ride upon the famous “Panoramic Road to Mount Snezhanka”.For 21 km or 3 hours and a half we will enjoy the beauty of this road. The Panoramic Road to Mount Snezhanka,  will takes us almost 2000 m. above sea level at the foot of Snezhanka Tower. The view from the top of the tower spreads 360 degrees ,revealing the beauty of all the Rhodopee mountains and parts of Aegean sea.

Day 8
After breakfast, time to say “goodbye” and departure for Sofia airport (aprox.3 hours ).On our way back will  have some time to visit the Bachkovo Monastery, which is actually the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria.
